If you are new to the AFC, before enrolling in a group class or in private lessons, you may want to take our free placement test. This step is optional but recommended as a way to help you get the best language experience with us, right from the start.

If you are a true beginner of French, you do not need to take this test.

This free test is conveniently sent via email and should not take more than 30 minutes to complete. The test determines your proficiency level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the international standard used to describe the language proficiency level achieved by a learner of French (from A1 to C2 levels).

Please note that this test is an assessment of your level for the purpose of placement in a group class. This is not an official certification of your language level. For language level certification, you may want to consider the DELF/DALF exams.

STEP 1: Email the AFC Director to receive your placement test.

STEP 2: Complete the test on your own time. Email it back to us.

STEP 3: The AFC Director will call you to discuss the results and if needed, will also assess your oral proficiency. This chat will take a maximum of 10 minutes.

STEP 4: After the evaluation is complete, we will recommend a class and help you navigate your options.

STEP 5: Browse our offerings and register for class.
