The Alliance Française de Charlottesville is a member-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the French language and francophone cultures through educational and cultural programs.
We belong to a global network of more than 835 Alliance chapters in 129 countries.

We are your best local connection to France and the premier provider of French language and culture in our area. We have about 200 members who take French group classes, private lessons, attend social and cultural events en français.

Learn to speak French through real-life situations across Strasbourg, Marseille, Provence, and Lille! This 4-week course builds practical everyday communication skills, giving you hands-on experience with trains, banks, pharmacies, and shopping at markets and in stores, while gaining confidence through key vocabulary, useful expressions, and guided role-play. In 2023, we celebrated our 30th anniversary!
To celebrate this milestone, we offered two brand-new programs: an immersion weekend in Charlottesville and a trip to Bordeaux, France!
In 2025, we offered a second immersion program, but this time, in Lyon. Stay tuned for our next trip in spring 2027!
