ONLINE FRENCH INSTRUCTOR

The Alliance Française de Charlottesville is seeking a part-time instructor of French to teach online evening thematic classes, using Zoom

The Alliance Française de Charlottesville is a Virginia nonprofit corporation founded in 1993. As part of the Alliance Française network, our mission is to promote knowledge and appreciation of the French language and Francophone cultures, and to encourage friendship and collaboration with the French-speaking world.

Job Title: French Instructor

Type: Part-time (evening hours only)

Area: For Charlottesville and its area (online only)

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Source, create, prepare and teach thematic classes for Alliance Française de Charlottesville adult learners

  • Design and teach specific topics related to French culture, history, current events and francophone countries to students of all levels

  • Guide and encourage students to learn to speak, understand, read, and write French

  • Follow Alliance Française pedagogical guidelines based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Native French speaker or equivalent (C1 level)

  • Educational background in Français Langue Etrangère (Licence, DAEFLE, DUFLE, Master…) and/or U.S. teaching certification

  • Prior work experience as a teacher of French (3 years minimum).

  • A valid authorization to work in the U.S.A. (work permit, green card or U.S. citizenship). The AFC does not sponsor visas.

  • Availability to teach evening classes from Monday to Thursday (any time between 6:00 - 8:30 pm EST)

  • Availability to teach 60-minute and/or 90-minute-long group classes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Computer proficiency and experience with Zoom preferred

  • Prior teaching experience for the Alliance Française network preferred
