French CLASSES & activities FOR KIDS & TEENS
We offer courses for toddlers through teenagers for both non-native speaker and bilingual students.
For children who are learning French as a foreign language, our curriculum focuses on a fun, educational and age-appropriate environment through cultural and linguistic immersion. Through art, games, songs, and stories, but also reading and writing, children discover the pleasure of speaking, understanding, writing and reading a new language.
Le club-monthly children's activities
Join Sophie Parson as she leads monthly children's activities in French. The activities will be held on a monthly basis at various locations in Charlottesville. See below for details on each event.
Registration fee includes all events. Discounts are given when registering more than one child. $100-1 child; $175-2 children; $225-3 children
January 26th - Tirons les Rois! (4.30pm-6.30pm)
Join us for the first event of the season to enjoy a piece of French tradition: the Galette des Rois. Each year in of January, French people celebrate Epiphany baking the famous and inimitable almond cake. During this session we will discovery the specificities of French Epiphany tradition with stories, crafts and of course some galette tasting. So who will be crowned King or Queen this year at Le Club? Register now to know!
February 28th - La tête dans les étoiles (6:00 - 8:00 pm)
McCormick Observatory will host our second event of the semester with the exceptional participation of Professor Trinh Thuan. The internationally renowned astrophysicist who was made chevalier of the National Order of the French Legion of Honor in 2014 will guide our young members to a tour of the facility and a star observation session. Do not miss this unique experience which will for sure give rise to vocations!
March 16th - Mardi gras ne t’en va pas! (4:30 -6:30pm)
Our third event will be held at la Maison francaise. Thanks to a renewed collaboration with our UVA partner our young members will enjoy this opportunity to spend an evening with French speaking UVA students making crepes and learning about French Mardi Gras tradition. A perfect way to practice the language, share passion for French culture while having fun!
April 27 – Faire ou ne pas faire Fanny? (4.00 -6.00pm)
Want to practice French while enjoying the most famous sport in South France? Join us for a Petanque tournament on our fourth event this semester. We will meet at Kardinal Hall and learn everything there is to know about this activity and its traditions. After that introduction we will get our hands on the balls and go into petanque all together. We promise you will almost be able to hear the cicagas!
May 12 – Le Club chante!
Le Club will be participating in Charlottesville Festival of Culture. Do you sing “comme un rossignol” or “comme une casserole”? Never mind! Join us for this fun event where we will all burst into singing and share with the city our love for French language and culture. This event will be preceded by a rehearsal session at the Alliance francaise the Fridayafternoon before the Festival. We hardly can wait!
May/June (date TBC) - Sur les pas du Hero des deux Mondes, le Marquis de Lafayette
Join us for the last event of the season at Monticello to discover the life of the most American of all the French historical figures, Le Marquis de Lafayette. After fighting during the American Revolution Le Marquis came back to the United State and visited his good friend Thomas Jefferson in 1824 at Monticello. We will learn all about this key character and momentum in American-French relations while touring Jefferson's house and property. Do not miss this exclusive opportunity to see Monticello from a different angle.
After School French
Please fasten your seatbelts and prepare to land in...Paris, Normandy, Provence...and more! In our After School Program you children are immersed in French culture and language one hour per week in the convenience of their school classrooms.
This year, join our experienced staff as they wisk your child to Paris and Normandy, discovering monuments, museums, markets, and cuisine. We currently offer our "Fly with us to France" program in elementary schools and our "Art in French" program in middle schools. "Art in French" is also offered to elementary schools during the month of May.

CLASSES AT THE DISCOVERY MUSEUM
Language starts best early. And teaching is accomplished best through play. We combine the two in a class at the Virginia Discovery Museum for children aged 2-5!
Join a native French speaker & local teacher as she shares her favorite songs, traditions and fun à la française in a familiar space giving your children ample time and space to explore a new culture and language at the best Discovery spot in town!
