What is The DElf/dalf Exam?

The DELF / DALF exams (Diplome d'etudes en langue francaise/ Diplome approfondi de langue francaise) provide diplomas that are awarded by the French Ministry of Education. These exams prove the French-language skills of a non-French speaker and the corresponding diplomas are valid for life. For this reason, the DELF and DALF exams can be used for school records as well as college or job applications.

The DELF/DALF Exams correspond to the six, CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) levels. This important scale has been used since 2001 to track students' levels of language mastery. Levels range from A1-C2, with C2 representing complete fluency.

Since 2019, the Alliance Française of Charlottesville is an authorized exam center for DELF/DALF certifications.
